Frequently asked questions about sailing on a motor boat

If you are going to rent a motor boat from us you may have questions about things on board, pets, sailing without a motorboat license and the costs.

We have listed the most frequently asked questions. Is the answer to your question not listed? Then contact us!

  • Do I need a motorboat licence to use a motorboat?

No motorboat licence is required to sail our motoryachts. Naturally, everyone is given a technical explanation about the boat before they depart.

  • I have no experience; can I still rent a motorboat?

We advise anyone with no experience to take a few hours' instruction. We can organise this for our clients at a modest charge. This is given prior to departure, on the boat that has been chartered. The lesson is for the whole crew (including children) and is very enjoyable. Besides practical exercises, a lot of information is given about, among other things, the rules on who has priority, commercial shipping and navigation. Taking a lesson means you can sail off feeling more relaxed and assured.

  • Can my pet come on board with me?

Pets are permitted on most of the boats. However, there are a number of exceptions. Pets are not permitted on the following boats: de Ruyter, Cook, de With, Martine, Maxima, Diaz, Hubertus, van Speijk, Louise, Sylvia and the Sierra Lima.

  • What is the situation regarding insurance?

Our motoryachts are all-risk insured. The excess is payable by the hirer. The level of this is stated on the price list in the form of the security deposit. This security deposit, which is payable when you board the ship, will be paid back in full upon return of the rental ship free of damage. You can pay the security deposit with a bank debit card*, it can be paid by bank transfer (stating the invoice number), or it can be paid in cash. It is also possible to insure/buy out the excess. This means that the excess ceases to apply (with the exception of loss of equipment and wrongly estimating the clearance height). For a comprehensive summary of our prices, view the price list.

    * Payment via credit card is not (yet) possible.

  • What is on board my boat?

Our yachts are equipped as standard with a comprehensive inventory. When you make your booking we will send you an inventory list. The only things you need to bring with you, or which can be hired as extras, are: kitchen cloths, towels and the duvets + duvet covers* (under-sheets, pillows and pillow cases are present).

*with the exception of ships with a VIP package.

  • What is the situation regarding electricity, and what electrical apparatus can I use on board?

All our boats are equipped with an inverter. This means that small electrical devices can easily be used on board, such as a telephone, camera, or laptop and charger. Apparatus that uses more power, such as a hairdryer, toaster or coffee maker, can only be used on boats that are longer than 12.5 metres. In the case of smaller boats, the boat needs to be connected to the shore power. And sometimes the apparatus needs to be plugged direct into the cable reel. This is explained further in the technical explanation of the boat.

  • Can I moor up anywhere I like in the nature?

Our boats are all equipped with a Marrekrite flag. This means that mooring at one of the Marrekrite berths is permitted. Bear in mind that there is no electricity supply at the Marrekrite berths. So you need to have cruised far enough - or the boat needs to be sufficiently well charged, to make use of the electricity.

  • Can I sail in the winter?

It is possible to rent a boat from us in the winter. However, not all the boats are suitable for this. The following boats are available in the winter, subject to consultation: Pegasus, Iris, Antoinette, Antares, Jupiter, Monique, De Ruyter, Anna Marie, Samantha, Maxima, Louise, Sylvia and the Sierra Lima.

Bear in mind that not all the bridges are in operation out of season.

  • Can I take my boat on the IJsselmeer?

The motorboats longer than 12 metres are suitable for cruising on the IJsselmeer. This only applies if it is safe to do so, if you have experience, and if you hire an IJsselmeer package. Cruising on the IJsselmeer is not permitted in wind strengths greater than force 4.

An IJsselmeer package comprises: lifejackets for all on board, distress flares, a chart of the IJsselmeer and binoculars.

  • What are the additional costs?

The fuel consumed and the final cleaning, which is carried out by us, are for the account of the hirer. When you return we fill up the diesel tank from our mobile tank and this is then settled up.

Harbour, bridge and lock charges are not included in the rental price.
